PROBLEM /SOLUTION ESSAY: LACK OF READING HABITS

Do you remember the end of the last book you read? Maybe if you do not, it is because a big problem is developing in our country and it is causing that Mexico has one of the last rates in a global list where we are considered as people without reading culture. But there are some possible solutions to solve this problem.
Through the time, Mexico has been decreasing in reading habits because of the development of new technologies. Some years ago, there were no computers or the usual internet. People were supposed to use or read books for doing homeworks or just as a hobby. Nowadays, it is harder to find someone reading a complete book, even in schools. In fact, in schools, teachers are not giving homework assignments about reading, students prefer to look for summaries in the internet which they do not read. Moreover, most of the people prefer wasting time playing video-games, being in the internet or watching tv. The solution depends on the education in schools or in the house, and the necessary sources given by the government, that Mexico and its people can improve this essential practice.
One solution comes from school and the house, it is important to teach how important it is to read. For instance, in Primary and Junior High Schools it is very common to use text books with many pictures and different kind of texts which make them interesting. So, in High Schools, teachers can design different text books for working in the class or in the house, instead of making assignments from the internet as usual. Furthermore, at home, parents can allow their children to have a good time with different books or magazines. Now, children tend to do many useless activities which make them to get distracted very often. But with the help of people around them, they can be better at reading.
Another solution has to come from government. For example, the creation of more public places to read. Mexico has a lot of parks, cinemas and entertainment centers, but it is necessary to have more libraries which most of the time can be counted with one hand’s fingers in each state. Also, the government can provide a large quantity of material to each school and DIF centers which are designed for the cultural development among families. However, people have to show more interest about reading so that the government creates these facilities for us.
We can get many opportunities about improving our culture. We can get a first site in the international list. With these solutions we can be better people. But it is about the interest we have to create to have all we want. If we do not, Mexico will continue as a third world country.
